Arvid Tarkiainen was my uncle. He was married to my father's sister, Natalie S.(Waskevich) Tarkiainen. I believe he lived in Worcester all his life.
He and Natalie had four sons, Donald A. Tarkiainen, who died March 10, 2003; David R. Tarkiainen of Ocean Ridge, Fla., who joined him in Heaven only nine short days after Donald; Daniel P. Tarkiainen, who died in 1995, and Alan D. Tarkiainen of North Oxford. He also left many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a Worcester firefighter for many years. Unfortunately, I don't remember whether Arvid had any siblings. As with the rest of the family, if anyone has any information they would like to share with me, please feel free to email me.
I can remember visiting Aunt Nat and Uncle Arvid and them visiting us when I was very young but we lost touch over the years. I remember Alan visiting with my cousin Carl sometimes during the summer and Jackie and I were the same age and lived near each other, so I did see him here and there. All of the boys were older than me and I don't remember seeing them much after the 1950's, when my parents separated and went their separate ways. Had my dad been well, I'm sure we would have spent a lot more time together. As things went though, we'll just have to look forward to a grande reunion in Paradise, complete with fireworks and all!! I always loved Aunt Nat and Uncle Arvid. They were terrific people and raised a wonderful family.
