James R. Edwards
December 26, 1945 - June 22, 2020

James Richard Edwards, 74 of Rigby, Idaho, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020 at Sage Grove Assisted Living Center in Rigby.

He was born December 26, 1945, in his Grandparents home at Wentworth, Missouri; the first of eight children of Walter Edwards Jr. and Betty Lou Reynolds Edwards.

He lived his entire early life in the rural Sarcoxie, MO area. He attended Cave Springs for his first 8 years of school, which was a one room building that later became a National Monument having served as a hospital, school and county court house during the Civil War. He attended high school at Sarcoxie where he was active in football, track and FFA. In addition, many nights were spent racoon hunting, bank line fishing – noodling for cat fish and just terrorizing the neighborhood.

Jim met his wife, Cora L Ward just after graduating from high school; they married November 20, 1965. In late May 1966 they followed his in-laws to Idaho where they spent the remainder of his life and had their seven children. Rick, Denny, Rebecca, Kevin, Brian, Brenda and Kari.

In 1981 Jim, Lucille and their three oldest children were baptized together into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1982. Jim remained active until his ill health kept him home. Jim worked at the Jefferson Co-Op, H-K Contractors until injured and Johnson Grain in Ririe until his first stroke. He remained home until the massive stroke on June 10, 2020. Jim loved living in the mountains and we always thought he would have been a great mountain man! He enjoyed the outdoors and would share his hobbies, hunting and fishing with anyone willing to listen and learn. Jim welcomed all to his home and his most cherished possessions were his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Robert) Ristrem of Chubbuck, Brenda Kay (John) Messenger of Rigby, Kari Jo Edwards of Rigby; sons James Richard “Rick” Edwards Jr. of Idaho Falls, Denny Edwards of Grace, and Brian Edwards of Idaho Falls; and his siblings, Joe, Jerry, Jack, Joyce, Janet, Jennie, and Jeannie of Missouri near Sarcoxie. Jim was blessed with and enjoyed each of his 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Betty Edwards; in-laws, Clarence and Ruby Ward; son, Kevin Edwards; grand-daughter, Maloree and a great-grandson, History.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Ririe-Shelton Cemetery. The family will meet from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., prior to services at Eckersell Funeral Home. The family extends their gratitude for the generous outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and support with special consideration for Aspen Hospice and Sage Grove Assisted Living, Amy and her crew were true angels of mercy.
