ANNA MCNULTY BARRETT, 98, a longtime resident of Swampoodle, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Marie Marcase, in Longport, N.J.
Mrs. Barrett was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and arrived in Philadelphia in 1912. Here she joined her brother, John, a conductor with a musical group called The Four Provinces.
In 1922, she married William F. Barrett, a customs official she had met three years earlier. They moved to Judson Street and lived for 40 years in the shadow of Connie Mack Stadium.
She occasionally visited Ireland and introduced her children and grandchildren to relatives there. "She was our link to America," said her niece in Limerick, Peggy O'Shaunnessy. "She made sure we remained family."
When she was older, she lived for a time in Chester County, in Glenside, and in Longport, N.J.
Survivors, in addition to Marcase: daughters, Marguerite Stone and Anne Hare; sons, John, William and Joseph; 17 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.
