From the Daily News Democrat, Huntington, Indiana, Monday, May 18, 1908.
Early this morning Mrs. George Wilburn passed away at her home in Salamonie Township after suffering for two week from a complication of diseases from which there was little hope of her recovery. She has been in poor health for some time and was in no condition to resist the combined ravages of a number of diseases. She became seriously ill almost two weeks ago very shortly after she was attacked. After that she declined rapidly and her death has been expected for several days. A report gained currency Saturday that she had ceased to live, but fortunately it was without foundation, and it was not until this morning at 3 o'clock that life finally departed.
She has always been a resident of this county and was born in Rock Creek Township on September 13, 1855. She spent her early life on the farm and when she grew to womanhood, became united in marriage to George Wilburn. They immediately removed to a farm in Salamonie Township about six miles south of Markle and almost three miles north of Buckeye. Here they lived in the quiet enjoyment of a happy country life until death robbed the home of its most precious jewel.
Mrs. Wilburn was an exemplary woman in many respects and proved herself worthy of the highest praise in her domestic life. She always made social affairs of secondary importance to the cares of her family and was seldom seen away from the family fireside. She was a kind neighbor and her death has caused the community to be shrouded in gloom. She was a member of the Methodist church at Rockford and ever faithful in her attendance.
Besides the husband, she leaves eight children to mourn her death. One died about ten years ago, and the ages of the others range from about eight to thirty. She leaves a number of relatives in other counties of this state.
The funeral services will be held in the Methodist Church at Rockford Wednesday morning leaving the late residence at 10 o'clock. Rev. Buryee will officiate and the interment will be in the nearby Methodist Cemetery.
