Retired employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died last night at 10:55 o'clock at his home, 2406 Fifth Avenue, after ailing for five years. He was born at Alexandria, Pa., on Sept. 21, 1864, a son of William and Margaret Burns.
He was retired from the company's service on April 1, 1930, from the East Altoona engine house as a machinist after forty-two years, seven months and twelve days of service.
His wife, Catherine E. (Summers) Burns, died twenty years ago.
He was a Methodist by faith, a member of White Cross lodge, Knights of Pythias, and the Sons of Union Veterans.
Surviving are one son, Frank L. Burns, one daughter, Mrs. Susan N. Boyles; one stepson, C. W. Hudson, all of Altoona, fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Stevens Memorial chapel in charge of Rev. Andrew L. Bixler, pastor of the Simpson Methodist church. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery. The remains may be viewed at Stevens Mortuary any time prior to the funeral.
