Mary Preston Radford Kearny was one of three children born to Dr. John Radford and his wife Harriet Kennerly Radford Clark. Mary's father was killed by a wild boar when she was 5 years old. Mary's mother relocated Mary and her two brothers to St. Louis, Missouri from Lewis County, Kentucky where she met and married General William Clark.
Mary was united in marriage on September 5, 1830 in St. Louis, Missouri to General Stephen Watts Kearny. Mary and Stephen were blessed with the birth of eleven children, nine of whom survived infancy, during their 18 year marriage:

Henry Stephen Kearny
Stephen Watts Kearny, Jr.
Mary passed away of senility according to her death record at the age of 87, fifty-one years after her husband General Stephen. Mary was pregnant with their eleventh child when the General passed away.
