Richard Dawson Brogan died at his home in East Mission at 2 o'clock Tuesday morning, aged 63 years, 7 months, and 16 days. Dick Brogan, as he was familiarly known, was born at St. Lawrence county, New York, February 1, 1838. He resided there until he reached the age of 24 when he went to California remaining there until he came to Kansas in 1869. In May 1869 he settled on the farm in East Mission where he spent the remainder of his life. In 1870 he was united in marriage to Catherine Hanlon with whom he lived happily until her death about three years later. Two children blessed there union, one of whom, Mrs. Peter Fox survives him. About 24 years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Gahagan, the woman who was at his bedside when he died.
Ten children blessed this union eight of whom survive him. Mr. Brogan was a progressive farmer and always took a lively interest in public affairs. He was intelligent, always well posted, and made a most desireable citizen.
Although Mr. Broagn had been in very poor health for several months suffering from Brights Disease, his death was somewhat sudden. He was up and around the house Tuesday and went out onto the porch. A few hours later life had passed away.
He was a member of the K. of C. and carried a life insurance policy in that benevolent order. The funeral service was held at St. Francis church at 9:00 a.m. yesturday under direction of the married men's sodality of which he had long been a member.
