Jazz Musician. An innovative drummer, Roach achieved much success as a member of Charlie Parker's Quintet, which included Miles Davis. The group helped pioneer the modern jazz style during the 1940s. After beginning his career as a young child performing in gospel groups, he would later bring his unique playing style to the New York nightclub scene. In addition to Parker, he performed and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington, Clifford Brown and Coleman Hawkins. During the 1970s, Roach became a music teacher. (bio by: C.S.)

Max, Had a chance to see you drum in the 70's. You were incredible. I am glad I went to that show, life is short. Thanks for the memories.
