Hugh H. Ownby, 80, a member of Wagoner First Baptist Church, past President of the Wagoner Lions Club and former Wagoner retail merchant died Sunday, September 12, 1993, after a long bout with cancer. Mr. Ownby moved to Wagoner from Shawnee in 1969, where he was a rancher-dairyman and active in many organizations, including the Oklahoma Milk Producer's Association, Oklahoma Peanut Grower's Association, Pottawatomie Cattleman's Association, board of directors of the Farmer's Home Loan Administration and chairman of the board of deacons and Sunday school teacher at University Baptist Church. He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma State University, Mr. Ownby is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine (Hopkins) Ownby of Wagoner; daughter Suzanne (Ownby) Rutherford of Huntsville, Ala.; sons, J. Steve Ownby of Springfield, Mo., and Kent Ownby of Edmond, Ok.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Cancer Society, Oklahoma Lions Eye Foundation, Bacone College Scholarship Fund, or your favorite charity. Arrangements were made by Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner, Ok.
