Jeffery Lynn Wallis was born on October 10, 1962 in Onawa, Iowa to parents Malvern and Dorothy (Bell) Wallis. He grew up in Mondamin and graduated from West Harrison High School in 1981. Jeff then went into the construction business working for RD Blue Construction and various other construction companies. He also operated Wallis Tree Trimming Service. Jeff was a hard worker and loved to help others. In his younger years he liked to fish, hunt and trap.

Jeff died on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley at the age of 57 years, six months and 12 days.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Malvern Wallis and brother, Tim Wallis. He is survived by his three children, Jessica and her husband Kevin Johnson of Blair, Nebraska, Joshua Wallis and his wife Chelsea of Blair, Nebraska and Tylor Wallis of Missouri Valley, Iowa; six grandchildren; mother Dorothy Wallis of Mondamin, Iowa; brother Gregg Wallis and his wife Beverly of Woodbine, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.

Missing Mondamin man recovered from Missouri River
(Mondamin) The Iowa Department of Public Safety says a missing Mondamin man was recovered from the Missouri River.

At 1:07 a.m. on April 22, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to an individual who was fishing and discovered a body along the Missouri River near the Remington Landing boat ramp west of Mondamin. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office recovered a male subject from the river, and the body was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.

On Friday April 24, an autopsy was conducted by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office. Through dental records and tattoo markings, the male subject was positively identified as 57-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Wallis of Mondamin.

On April 18, the Wallis family had filed a missing person’s report with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is being conducted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, and is assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Burt County Sheriff’s Office of Nebraska. Final autopsy results are pending due to toxicology exams.
