Note from Charles Keith Mathis, Jr. with regard to McDonald Don Phears and Martha Pauline "Mattie" Clemons: "Uncle Don" got her pregnant and she had three kids by him. He also had kids w/at least one other sister, maybe two, and was actually married to a fourth Clemons sister, Elizabeth Clemons. Uncle Don (he was really my GG GF). The Clemons women are daughters of James Ira Clemons and Martha Dallas.

It is said that he died in a wagon accident. "He was killed in a drunk wagon driving accident. He rolled the wagon over and killed himself in the accident."
