He worked extensively with youth groups and was a deacon and choir director of the First Southern Baptist Church. For many years after his retirement from the police department, he served as city assessor, and the 1957 City Directory lists him as the Deputy County Assessor. An active Free Mason, he was a member of Western Star Lodge No. 240 A.F. and A.M.
