Frank Bernard was the second youngest child of Herman Heinrich Strathman and Maria Elizabeth Stines. FB married Ida Fietsam in Fayetteville, Illinois. The Strathman's had large family-6 boys and 5 girls. FB became a photographer in nearby Mascoutah Illinois. FB is well remembered as the photographer who captured "the tornado" destruction in May 1896.
The Illinois studio was sold to one of FB's nephews, Herman, John's son when Ida and FB moved to Seneca Kansas 1908. There he opened another studio. FB branched into merchandise in 1917 opening a store in Seneca. These businesses were turned over to some of their children to run as FB and Ida gradually retired. One of his sons became a photograph, Frank J Strathman.
