Julia Pugh was born in the Stemmers Run area of Baltimore County. She was the daughter of North Carolina transplant Jacob Pugh. About 1888, she married small farmer Heinrich Johann Betz (b. 7 Jan 1868, Hessen; d. 3 Nov 1899, Baltimore Co., MD; buried Zion United Church of Christ, Stemmers Run). His early death left her with four children to raise: Renee (b. May 1888), Gertrude Betz Baker (b. Aug 1890), Ruth (b. Oct 1892) and Henry John Betz, Jr. (b. 1 Mar 1895; d. Sept 1968, Baltimore, MD). Henry went to work very early in a Sparrows Point steel mill, and supported his mother and a number of relations. Ruth went to work for Crown Cork and Seal, and approx. 1920 married Western Dairy employee Howard Edgar Miller (b. 1895, MD). Gertrude died in 1919 at the age of 28 of TB, and is buried with her mother. To All Interesting Parties:
I have submitted a request to delete this memorial as it is clearly wrong.
Julia Anna Pugh Betz is interred at Oak Lawn Cemetery with her daughter,
Gertrude Betz Baker, as has been written by our pal, Waldonia. Thank you,
our pal, Waldonia.
The late originator of this memorial got it wrong. As I am not the creator
of the memorial I cannot delete it (or I surely would have). Still, I am certain
Find-a-Grave admins will remove this memorial, and any and all confusion
about this will cease.
               Somewhat Sincerely,
                              Terry
