A Camas homemaker, Esther Catherine Ammeter, 87, died at home Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Her maiden name was Godsil.
Mrs. Ammeter was born April 16, 1911, in Galesburg, Ill., and lived in Camas since 1918.
She enjoyed reading and writing poetry.
Her husband, William, died in 1944, and a son, William L., died in 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucinda Ammeter and Maureen Ammeter, both of Camas.
There will be no service. A private burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Washougal.

In the obituaries of Maurice and Katie Godsil, Esther Godsil Ammeter is named as a daughter. After checking, in the 1920 and 1930 census she is listed as a niece and her parents were Francis and Esther Godsil. Esther's mother died shortly after her birth and apparently was raised by Francis' brother and wife.
