My wonderful Grandpa.

Orvan Arthur Thompson was born in Pike County In, on December 14, 1905 to Arthur Mathew and Ceora Edna Hornback Thompson. An error on his birth certificate shows his birthdate as December 12, 1905. When the county clerk's office refused to rectify the error, his exasperated mother exclaimed: "I know when he was born, I was there!"

He married Mary Oveda Davis on December 24, 1932, They had 3 children, Phyllis, Alan, and Noel and also raised an orphaned niece, Bonnie.

He was a coal miner, a defense plant worker during WWII, a filling station attendant, and school janitor. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering, and telling stories. He often gave away food from his garden to neighborhood ladies, saying he had to help take care of the "widder women." He was a kind man who was willing to help wherever he could.

He passed away on his 77th birthday.
