William E "Wild Bill" Donovan
Birth: Oct. 13, 1876
Death: Dec. 9, 1923

Major League Baseball Player. Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he was a right-handed pitcher dubbed ‘Wild Bill' while playing for a Hartford team in the minor leagues. On April 22, 1898, he made his major league debut as a reliever for the Washington Senators. For eighteen seasons, he played with the Washington Senators in 1898, Brooklyn Superbas (1899-1902), Detroit Tigers (1903–12, 1918) and New York Yankees (1915-16). In 1901, he was the National League wins leader with 25, American League leader in complete games with 34 in 1903 and American League win percentage leader with .862 in 1907. He ended his career with a record of 186 wins, 139 loss, 289 complete games, 35 shutouts, 8 saves, 1552 strikeouts and a 2.69 earned run average. He died at age 47 in Forsyth, New York. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
