Fred L. Ballard, 45, native of this area, died at the Fort Harrison Veteran's hospital Thursday.
Ballard was born at Belgrade on February 17, 1915, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Ballard. He attended schools in Bozeman and spent most of his life in the Gallatin Valley. He was a resident of rural Manhattan and belonged to the American Legion post at Manhattan.
Ballard, who had been a planer at a sawmill, was a veteran of overseas service in World War II.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Laura Ballard, Manhattan; a daughter, Katherine Ann, Alliance, Neb.; two brothers, Clyde Ballard, Ojlala, SD, and Irving Ballard, Bozeman; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Dahl and Law chapel. Interment will be in the Meadowview Cemetery at Manhattan.
