Inez Chandler Alford, 82, of McComb, Miss., died of heart failure in her home Friday, Nov. 29, 1996. Services were held Dec. 1 at Hartman Funeral Home, McComb. Burial: Hollywood Cemetery, McComb. The Rev. Frank Wheat officiated.
Survivors include two sons, Warner (Kay) of Ridgeland, Miss., and Charles of McComb, Miss.; two daughters, Judy Alford of McComb, Miss., and Susan (Buddy) Nichols of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Swayze (Melinda) Alford and Phyllis Alford, all of Oxford, Miss., John Alford of Hamesburg, Miss., Amanda Nichols of Davenport and Blakeney Nichols and Chandler Nichols, both of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Carrie P. Chandler of Crystal Springs, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.W. Alford Sr.; and a brother, Charles Chandler.
Inez was born Dec. 12, 1913, in Bogalusa, La., to Gus and Lillian Webber Chandler. She was a homemaker and owned Denman-Alford Clothing Store with her husband for many years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, past president of the Cecilian Circle and helped organize the Dot Hubbard Circle. She was the Junior Auxiliary Azalea Ball Queen in 1966, and the McComb Enterprise-Journal Mother of the Year in 1953. She was active with the Boy Scouts of America and the Hughes PTA. She had been a member of the Crescite Club, Order of the Eastern Star and the Beauceants. She helped found the first garden club in McComb and was past chairman of the Mothers' March of Dimes.
