Ada was the sixth child of thirteen born to Elias & Lydia (Boyer) Smith. She had 9 sisters (one died at 3 days old) and 3 brothers. Ada's parents moved to Grundy County from Indiana and worked for Alonzo Schwarck. Ada married Alonzo on Decemember 28, 1918 at the Baptist Parsonage in Eldora, IA.
