| Birth: | Mar. 13, 1913 | | Death: | Jan. 18, 1989 |  Negro Leagues Baseball Player. Born in Hopkins, South Carolina, he was a right-handed power hitter who played all infield positions. For eleven seasons he played in the Negro Leagues, plus other leagues with the Pittsburgh Crawfords (1937-38), Toledo Crawfords (1939), Indianapolis Crawfords (1940), Newark Eagles (1942), Mexican League (1941, 1947), Canadian League (1948) and Philadelphia Stars (1946, 1949-50). He was a two-time all-star (1940, 1949) and finished his in black-ball career with a .359 lifetime batting average. On April 30, 1952, he made his Major Leauge debut with the National League Boston Braves, played in fourteen games and had 25 hits. He spent the rest of 1952 season in Milwaukee, hitting a .318 average. From 1953 to 1955, he played baseball in the minor leagues where had an over .300 batting average, with 42 homeruns. In 1955, he helped the Crabbers become the first team representing Puerto Rico to win a Caribbean Series Championship. He died at age 73 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
