32nd California Governor. He served as Governor of California from 1959 to 1967. The patriarch of one of California's most prominent political families, after serving as San Francisco's district attorney he was elected attorney general in 1950 and served two terms in that office. His son, Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown Jr. served two terms as Governor of California from 1975 to 1983. His daughter Kathleen Brown served as California's state treasurer in the early 1990s and was the Democratic candidate for governor in 1994.
