Near My Lai

Mt. Eden grad killed in battle

Hayward - Mr. and Mrs. Marcell M. LeBars, 2416 Dunn Road, have been notified that their son Army Spec. 4 Steven LeBars, was killed May 15 while on patrol near My Lai, Vietnam.

Spec. 4 LeBars, 21, was a 1967 graduate of Mt. Eden High School who entered the service in March, 1969. He went to Vietnam Sept. 6 and had written his parents that he would be coming home in three months.

He was a member of the Americal Division, Company B, Sixth Infantry, 198th Infantry Group Brigade.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marcell Y. LeBars of Hayward; a grandfather, Antonio Ferreira of Oakland and several aunts and uncles.

KIA while serving as a Specialist Four with B CO, 1ST BN, 6TH INFANTRY, 198TH INFANTRY BDE, AMERICAL DIV, USARV, Army of the United States from Hayward, California. STEVEN LE BARS is on the Wall at Panel W10, Line 45. May his sacrifice not be forgotten.
