Jane Dummer Sewall
Birth: 1627, England
Death: Jan. 13, 1701
Essex County
Massachusetts, USA

She married Henry Sewall on March ye 25, 1646.

Jane was the daughter of Stephen Pyldren Dummer & Alice Archer. She married Henry Sewell II. To this union, 8 children were born. (Original information from Beca). Based on this, I find a marriage for Mrs Jane Dumer and Henry Sewell on March 25, 1646 in Newbury Vital Records. I don't see another marriage for Jane or another Dumer having married a Jane to explain the "Mrs" in the record nor do I see anything mentioned in the genealogy described below.

Children I note in the Newbury vital records include (all noted with spelling Sewall):

--Hannah born at Hunworth, Hampshire May 10, 1649 [Genealogy has Tamworth, Warswickshire] married Jacob Toppan on Aug 24, 1670
--Samuel born at Bishopstole, Hampshire, Mar 28, 1652 died Jan 1 1730. Married Hannah Hull, Abigail Tilley and Mary Gibbs. The Genealogy described below is based on his diary.
--John born Oct 10, 1654 in Badesley England died Aug 8, 1699, married Hannah Fessenden on Oct 27, 1674.
--Major Stephen born at Badesley, Hampshire, Aug 15[19], 1657 d at Salem MA Oct 17, 1725, married Margaret Mitchell
--Jane born at Badesley, Hampshire, Oct 25, 1659 died Jan 29, 1717, married Moses Gerrish of Kittery ME Oct 24, 1677
--Anne born Sept 3, 1662 died Dec 18, 1706, married William Longfellow Nov 10[?], 1678 and Henry Short on May 11, 1692
--Mehitabell born May 8, 1665 Newbury died June 17, 1752, married William Moody in Newbury on Nov 16, 1684 [The genealogy lists husbands Ezekiel Northend married on Sept 9, 1681 and Moses Bradstreet but there is a memorial on FAG for Moody - see Dorothy below for clarification.]
--Dorothy born Oct 29, 1668 in Newbury but is not mentioned in the genealogy for some reason. However, I found a marriage between Ezekiel Northend and Dorothy Seawall in Rowley on Sept 10, 1691 and a Mrs Dorothy Northend married Moses Bradstreet of Ipswich in Rowley on Oct 27, 1737 so that I believe indicates that Mehitable and Dorothy were somehow mixed up in the genealogy. There is also a Dorothy Northend of Byfield, Rowley and William Dummer of Newbury married at Newbury on June 2, 1761 mentioned in the Rowley vital record so the Sewall, Dummer and Northend families apparently were close in Essex County.

According to The Sewall Genealogy With Index to the Names, Compiled by Rev. Chas. N. Sinnett, Fertile, MN, Jane married Henry Sewall, son of Henry Sewall and Anne Hunt, born Coventry, England 1614 and died May 16, 1700 aged 86 years. At age 20, he emigrated to New England on the ship Elizabeth and Dorcas. He and wife Jane and her parents returned to England where several of their children were born. He returned to America and later sent for his family to join him in Newbury. They returned on the Prudent Mary.

The genealogy is based on the notes and diary of their son, Samuel, who became a Chief Justice of Massachusetts and was involved in the witch trials there. It is a very interesting book to read and describes several generations before the immigrant Henry and provides some information on the extended family of Jane Dummer as well.
