After graduating from Platte Center High School in 1952 Betty attended University of Nebraska and Wayne State Colleges. She married Ed Zelasney on January 7, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center.
They lived in Frankfort, Germany; Clovis, New Mexico; Dayton, Ohio; and Omaha, Nebraska; until 1961 when Ed was discharged from the Air Force.. They settled in Dallas, Texas. Betty became employed as a secretary and then a counselor for the Salvation Army. She moved with the family to Fairbanks Alaska in 1975 and worked for the News Miner Newspaper. They returned to Dallas, Texas; in 1979 and she returned to service with the Salvation Army.
In 1996 Betty and her husband moved to Platte Center, Nebraska;. Betty worked for the Platte Center Elementary School System as a janitor until she accepted a position with the Norfolk, and Columbus, Salvation Army as a family counselor. She was also involved with the Platte Center Community by serving as Secretary for Platte Center High School Alumni; Secretary for the St. Josephs Catholic Church Council; and elected member of the Platte Center town council.
