Norman J. Colman
Birth: May 16, 1827
Death: Nov. 3, 1911

Colman had a lifelong passion for agriculture. After relocating to St. Louis, he established an agricultural journal called Colman's Rural World. A Democrat, Colman served on the Board of Alderman for two years & spent another two years in the Missouri State Legislature. In 1873 he was elected lieutenant governor. President Cleveland officially appointed Colman the first Secretary of Agriculture. (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
