Notes: John J. Whelton. John J. Whelton, 247 Cleveland Boulevard, Lorain, first elected clerk of Lorain Municipal Court, died yesterday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was 73. Mr. Whelton was elected court clerk in 1922. He was well known in the Lorain area for his participation in quartet singing and his work in both St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lorain and St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elyria. Surviving him are his wife, Anna, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Reidy-Scanlan funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lorain. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery there.

FIRST CLERK OF LORAIN COURT DIES
John J. Whelton, 73, the Lorain Municipal Court's first clerk, died today at 7 a.m. in St. Joseph HOspital following an illness of nine weeks. His home was at 2447 Cleveland Blvd.

Born in Troy, N.Y., Mr. Whelton, had lived in Lorain 63 years coming from Johnstown, Pa. He retired in January after 28 years as an accountant with the Ohio Forge and Machinery Co. of Cleveland. Prior to that time he was employed at the National Tube Co.

Mr. Whelton was well known in this area for his participation in barbaershop quartet singing and in recent years sang with the Elks quartet. Until about 10 years ago he sang in the choir of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elyria for 25 years.

Active Church Leader
For many years he was a councilman of St. John's Church until moving to the Cleveland Blvd. address when he transferred membership to St. Anthony Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of the church and also was a member of Lorain Council 637 Knights of Columbus; Lt. Francis McManus Assembly, Fourth Degree K. of C. and Elk's Lodge 1301.

He is survived by his wife, Anna and many nieces and nephews in this area.

Friends will be received after 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Reidy-Scanlan Funeral Home where the K of C and Holy Name Society will hold a rosary service Friday at 8 p.m.

Funeral services Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home will be followed by a high mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony Church. The Rev. Fr.Clement Orth, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
