| Birth: | Mar. 22, 1878 Moline Rock Island County Illinois, USA | | Death: | Nov. 1, 1952 Perry Noble County Oklahoma, USA | John Thomas Buffington was a quiet man from what my mother tells me of her memories of great grandpa. John came to Oklahoma Territory with his parents and siblings in the Land Run of 1889 they settled on a 160 acre land claim south of the Cimarron River in what is today Goodnight, Oklahoma. John was known all around central Oklahoma as one of the best potato growers in these parts and loved the land that he worked with his wife and children.
John Thomas Buffington married Maggie Alice Dallas on 19 March 1911 in Coyle, Logan County, Oklahoma. The family would often move from Colorado and Oklahoma following the potato harvest. My grandfather was the only son of John to be born in Colorado in a covered wagon in a potato field. John and Maggie finally settled on a old farm in Covington, Oklahoma where John lived out the rest of his days often in the back yard swinging in his favorite hammock.
