Mrs. Portrey was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Maywood, Nebraska, the youngest of 15 children Ernest(this should be Eugene and she is connected to the correct father - this is how it appeared in the paper) and Sarah Flower. At an early age, she moved with her family to Idaho where she attended school.

She married Leonard Eugene Portrey on Oct. 2,1947, in Eagle. They lived in Emmett, Kennewick, Wash., Naples, Idaho and Payette.

Mr. Portrey died in 1979. She then moved back to Emmett where she could be close to her family.

Mrs. Portrey was known as "Grams" to most of her friends. Her interests were visiting, shopping, yard sales and family get-togethers.

Survivors include three sons, Edward K. Rice of Clarksville, Tenn., Thomas B. Rice, of Boise and. Leonard E. Portrey Jr. of South Bend Wash. three daughters, Donna Watterlin of Emmett, Mina Simonsen of Bonners Ferry and Deanna Johnson of Caldwell; three sisters, Agnes Holbrook of Emmett,Cora Armstrong of Spokane, Wash., and Erma Massengale of Pasco, Wash.; 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son.
