St. Louis Mayor. A native St. Louisan, Tucker was a mechanical engineering professor at Washington University before accepting a position as secretary to Mayor Bernard Dickmann in 1934. He continuted to serve in the next administration before returning to Washington University. In 1953, he won the Democratic primary and ultimately the election for mayor. Mayor for 3 terms, he was responsible for the construction of the Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium and the Planetarium, as well as the highway system in St. Louis.
