| Birth: | Jul. 17, 1886 Toone Hardeman County Tennessee, USA | | Death: | Jan. 17, 1955 Enid Garfield County Oklahoma, USA | Wife of William Thomas Smith
Minnie Pirtle was born and raised in Southern Tennessee and was a devote Presbyterian her whole life. She married on September 25, 1909 William Thomas Smith and raised eight children mostly on her own as William died in his early 30's after plowing a field in summer heat was caught in a rainstorm and developed pneumonia. Minnie was to go on and raise her children the best she could Minnie believed that hard work and honest pay was a great virtue in life which sometimes brought her into conflict with some people but she was her own person.
Minnie moved here to Oklahoma with her daughter Mary Louise Smith and her son in law Lum Buffington after they had married when he returned from the Second World War. Minnie lived with her daughter Mary and my mother had some of her most precious memories of Minnie from those years here in Perry, Oklahoma when they would play in the backyard of her mother's house. Minnie also lost her son Albert Woodrow Smith in the Korean War. Minnie said she always knew the moment Albert was gone as she heard him come up the front porch and say "goodbye mom". Minnie loved her children and grandchildren and is always thought about in my family she is greatly missed.
