Mrs. Mary Monroe, 94, died at the Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia on May 14, 1947. She was born February 11, 1853 in Moniteau County in the Corticelli community. She was married to Louis C. Monroe who died January 9, 1909.
For 35 years Mrs. Monroe and her husband lived at their farm home in the vicinity of her birthplace. In 1906 the farm was sold and they purchased property in Otterville where she lived until October, 1940. She had lived with her son, Dr. A. E. Monroe in Sedalia during the winter months. Her husband was a farmer and a country preacher, serving in the pastoral and missionary work of the Baptist Church in Cole, Miller, Moniteau and Cooper counties from 1879 to 1902. One of her sons and two grandsons are ministers and two sons and three grandsons are physicians.
Surviving are six children; Dr. A. E. Monroe, of Sedalia; Dr. U. S. Monroe, of Mountain View, Ark.; Rev. George C. Monroe of Harrisonville, Emmett H. Monroe, of Fulton, Mrs. M. M. Templeton, of Strang, Oklahoma and Mrs. T. D. Gregory, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, one brother, G. M. D. Shadwick of Fowler, California. 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Otterville Baptist Church, of which she was a member, Saturday afternoon. Burial was in the Enloe Cemetery southeast of California, Mo.
