James Ferrell Swindell, 68, son of Willena Swindell, was born Dec. 31, 1938, at Bell City. He died July 16, 2007, at his home at Raymondville.

He grew up under the care of Joseph Franklin and Tina Jane Swindell.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Ticonderoga until his discharge in January 1960 in California. His ambition was to make enough money to get back home.

He married Janice Bumpus Sept. 3, 1960. They had four children.

Mr. Swindell worked for Fraiser Brothers Boiler Co., eventually purchasing and operating the business until selling it in 1985 when he and his son returned to Missouri.

He married Phyllis Elaine Buckner Sept. 11, 1991.



Mr. Swindell worked for the public water supply district at Fort Leonard Wood and the Phelps County Regional Medical Center before starting his own plumbing business. He operated it until recent illness.

The Swindells enjoyed life on the farm with the garden, chickens, horses and occasional fishing. He spent time at the coffee shop telling jokes and chatting.

He was preceded in death by Joseph and Tina Swindell, Willena Huddleston, Leo Gray and Curtis Gray.

Surviving are his wife of the home; six children, Jennifer Lynn Anderson, Julia Lee McNulty, Jeanne Morgan, James Robert Swindell, Kandy JoMcElfresh and Angie Lou Wade; five sisters, Norma Tolbert, Marilynn Eakers, Carolynn Wulff, Linda Musgraves and Vicky Gray; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were July 18 at the Boone Creek Baptist Church with Dr. James Miller officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Craddock Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
