Mahoning Dispatch, Fri 20 July 1906
"Death of Jacob Lower – Jacob Lower died at his home in this place Thursday afternoon, July 12, as was stated in the last Dispatch. Mr. Lower had been suffering from bronchitis for a long time and death was not unexpected. The deceased was born in Ellsworth township Nov. 14, 1825, consequently in the 81st year of his age. He was married Sept. 10, 1846, to Miss Sarah Diehl, who was born and reared within a quarter of a mile of Mr. Lower's home, and it was his great desire to live until next September to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage. Besides his aged widow he leaves two children – J. H. Lower and Mrs. R. J. Crockett – and six grandchildren – Mrs. C. L. Manchester, Mrs. W. W. Hendricks, Mrs. W. S. Cook, Perry, Frank and Jay Crockett – and 13 great-grandchildren. There has been but one death in Mr. Lower's family in the last 60 years – R. J. Crockett, his son-in-law, who died five years ago last December. Mr. Lower was a most successful farmer which occupation he followed until 16 years ago when he moved to Canfield and lived a retired life. He was an ardent democrat and was ever ready to defend the principles of his party. Early in life he united with the M. E. Church at Ellsworth. The funeral Sunday morning at 10 o'clock was largely attended, Rev. W. S. Rowe conducting the services at the house and Ellsworth Methodist church. Interment in the Ellsworth cemetery."
