| Birth: | Jun. 23, 1844 | | Death: | Jan. 11, 1903 |  US Congressman. His family moved to Washington County, Oregon in 1859. He graduated from Oregon's Pacific University in 1868, settled in Hillsboro, and became an attorney in 1870, and also owned and operated a large horse breeding farm. A highly regarded orator, Tongue was a member of the Oregon Senate from 1888 to 1892 and Chairman of the Republican state conventions of 1890, 1892 and 1894. In 1896 he was elected to the US House of Representatives. He was reelected twice and served from March, 1897 until his death. (bio by: Bill McKern)
