Mr. Douglas Raymond Swartout, age 68, of Panama City Beach, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 15, 2007 at his residence.
Mr. Swartout was born February 11, 1939 in Detroit, MI; a son of the late Raymond and Catherine Krasnosky Swartout. Doug was a retired Chief Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force having served in the Vietnam conflict. He was the recipient of 2 Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding service, and four Air Force Accomodation Medals for Meritorious Service. In 2002 he was recognized for 40 years of Service to the United States Government. After retiring from the Air Force, he was the Adjutant of the D.J. Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette, Michigan. He went to work with the Department of Justice with Immigration & Naturalization in Burlington, Vermont; then worked at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland with Special Services Contracting. Mr. Swartout moved to Panama City Beach and worked for the Coastal Systems Station as Associate Head Supply Division, Chief of Contracting, retiring in 2004. His final career was with the Veterans Outreach Center of the Small Business Administration at Gulf Coast Community College. Doug enjoyed traveling, camping, and his R.V. He was Commander of the VFW Post in Panama City Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Hatfield Swartout of Panama City Beach; two sons, Douglas R. Swartout II of Marquette, MI, Theodore D. Swartout of Panama City, FL; two daughters, Jennifer Swartout of Bradenton, FL, Jeanette Swartout of Kalkaska, MI, with daughter, Shae Marie Swartout and four stepsons, Mark Hatfield, wife, Cherie of Atlanta, GA; Mickey Hatfield, wife, Christine of Montgomery, AL, Paul Hatfield Jr., wife, Heather of Panama City Beach, children, Paul III Hatfield, Thomas Hatfield, and Lilly Hatfield, Darrell Hatfield, wife, Kristi of Panama City Beach and son, Jesse Hatfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Anita Stetz, Linda Maver and Theresa Shaffer.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Panama City Beach, Florida, 204 Cobb Road, at 3:00p.m. Dr. Jerry Weaver will be officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will take place at 2:00p.m., Monday, July 23, 2007 at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the VFW Post # 10555 of Panama City Beach, the Panama City Beach Senior Center, or the Emerald Coast Hospice.
