On 29 July 1926, Charles Jr. and his wife, sold the Nimitz Hotel to a group of Fredricksburg Texas men who remodeled the aging Hotel at a cost of $125,000.
The Hotel closed its doors forever in the fall of 1963. The Nimitz Hotel was renovated and on 24 February 1967, on what would have been Admiral Nimitz's 82nd. birthday, it was opened as a museum and tribute to the men and woman who served under Admiral Nimitz in World War 2.
Today, the hotel is the headquarters of the Admiral Nimitz State Historical Park and administered by the Texas Wildlife Department.
