A native of Olive Branch, Mississippi, he attended the East Side High School in Olive Branch, and the Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. He played the positions of both tackle and as an offensive lineman for the university's Jackson State Tigers. After graduating, Gray was selected by the Miami Dolphins during the 1973 NFL Draft, and he eventually went onto play professional football for a total of eleven seasons. He played for the National Football League's New England Patriots from 1973 to 1978, the Houston Oilers from 1979 to 1981, and the New Orleans Saints from 1982 until his retirement in 1983. He was named a Pro-Bowler four times during his career (1976, 1978, 1979, and 1981). He died in Westwood, Massachusetts, four days before his 50th birthday. (bio by: K)
