ASBURY, Iowa -- Earl "Ozzie" Brahm, 78, of 2330 Dearborn, Asbury, died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Brahm was employed at the former Caradco Company before starting at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works, retiring in 1995.

He was born on Jan. 30, 1929, in North Buena Vista, son of Earl and Daisy (Roe) Brahm. He married Velma Breitbach on Sept. 17, 1949, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dubuque. They enjoyed over 57 years of marriage.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1947. He played baseball for the Dyersville White Hawks, the Balltown and North Buena Vista baseball teams. He was selected MVP of the Dyersville Baseball Tournament in 1954, and later was inducted into the Dubuque County Baseball Hall of Fame. He coached baseball in the Holy Ghost Holy Name League and Independent League, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach.

Ozzie was a member of Resurrection Parish, he also served as Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the John Deere Ambassadors after his retirement.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He also was a die-hard Cubs fan. He loved working in his yard, especially with his roses. He was a great storyteller and always had "one more" story to tell.

Surviving are his wife, Velma; two sons, Bill (Teresa) Brahm, of Dubuque, and Dave (Stacey) Brahm, of San Antonio, Texas; four daughters, Chris (Bob) Wiezorek, Barb (Bill) Schlickman and Patti (Sean) Swiggum, all of Dubuque, and Mary (Pat) Peters, of Sigourney; 12 grandchildren, Amy (Erick) Schork, Steve (Emily) Wiezorek, Jim Wiezorek, Sara Wiezorek, Peter Schlickman, Katie Schlickman, Jacqueline (Steve) Biver, Calley and Austin Brahm, Maiti Peters, and Tristan and Cassidy Swigg um; a great-granddaughter, Anna Schork; two sisters, Irene (Albert) Klein and Doris Friedman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evie Goodman; and brothers, Clyde and Marion VanHorne.
