The Last Will and Testament of JAMES KEITH Clerk was presented in Court by MARY ISHUM KEITH and CHARLES GREEN Clerk two of the Executors who made Oath thereto and the same being proved by the Oaths of the Witnesses is admitted to record and the Executors performing what is usual in such cases Certificate is granted (entry not finished).
Ordered that JOHN WRIGHT, GEORGE NEVILL, JOHN AMBROSE and JOHN CRUMP or any three of them being Sworn before a Justice of the peace do Inventory and appraise the Estate of James Keith Clerk deceased in current money and that the Executors do return the same to the Court.
Children of James (Rev.)1 Keith and Mary Isham Randolph were as follows:
i. James Keith Jr. was born circa 1734 at Prince William (now Fauquier). He married Catherine Contee, daughter of John Contee and Margaret Snowden.
ii. John Keith was born circa 1735 at Prince William (now Fauquier). He married Mary (Elizabeth?) Doniphan, daughter of Alexander Doniphan and Mary Waugh, after 1768.
iii. Isham (Lieut) Keith was born in 1735 at Prince William (of "Woodbourne" Fauquier). He married Charlotte Ashmore, daughter of William Ashmore and Elizabeth (Betty) Gallahue, in 1778 Fauquier.
iv. Thomas (Capt.) Randolph Keith was born circa 1736 at Prince William (now Fauquier). He married Judith Blackwell, daughter of Joseph (Col.) Blackwell Sr. and Lucy Steptoe, on 25 May 1775 Fauquier County, Virginia Sec. V, Ch 33.
v. Mary Randolph Keith was born on 28 Apr 1737 at Prince William (now Fauquier). She married Thomas (Col.) Marshall, son of John (of the Forest) Marshall and Elizabeth Markham, in 1754 Germantown, Prince William County now Fauquier.
vi. Judith Keith was born circa 1741 at Prince William (now Fauquier). She married James Key, possibly son of Father Price, circa 1765 Fauquier County, Virginia.
vii. Elizabeth Keith was born in 1745 at Prince William (now Fauquier). She married Edward Ford, son of Thomas Ford and Jane Milstead, in 1766.
viii. Alexander D. (Capt.) Keith was born on 2 Jul 1748 at Prince William Co (now Fauquier) VA. He married (--?--) Yancey. He married Mary Anne Gallahue in 1778 Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Mary Isham Keith being summonded before this Court to give County Security to William Blackwell gent and others her Securitys for the faithfull administration of the estate of James Keith, gent came into the said court and entered himself Security for their Indemnity.

THOMAS McCLANAHAN - Plaintiff vs MARY ISHAM KEITH, Exe. of James Keith, Clergyman, dec'd, Defendant.
The defendant having been duly summoned and failing to appear it is considered that the Plaintiff recover against the said Defendant the sum of 510 pounds of tobacco to be levied of the Goods and Chattels which were of the said James at the time of his death in the hands of the said Defendant to be administered if so much on her hands to be administered she hath and if she hath not then the costs of the aforesaid to be levied of the proper Goods and Chattels of the said defendant and also his costs. July 22, 1762. Justices present: John West, Daniel McCarty, John Carlysle, and Wm. Adams.
Fauquier County, Virginia 22 Aug 1772, Mary Isham Keith gave Thomas Keith 5 negroes and her share of her mother's (Judith Davis) estate. In return, Thomas was to pay 150 pounds current money of VA towards Mary's debt's and to keep Mary in a decent and genteel manner:
Articles of agreement made and entered into the twenty second day of August Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and seventy two between Mary Isham Keith of the Parish of Leeds in the County of Fauquier and Colony of Virginia widow and Relict of the late James Keith, Clerk, of the one part and Thomas Keith of the Parish, County and Colony aforesaid Witness whereas the said Thomas Keith has paid for the said Mary Isham Keith the sum of One hundred and fifty pounds current money of Virginia towards the paiment of her debts and is to support and maintain the said Mary Isham Keith in a decent and genteel Manner she the said Mary Isham Keith for and in consideration thereof Hath Bargained, sold, made over, delivered and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain, sell, makeover, Deliver and confirm unto the said Thomas Keith the five following slaves (?), Beck, Finder, Amos, and (?) to have and to hold the said Five negroe Slaves unto the said Thomas Keith his heirs and assigns forever. It is further agreed between the parties that whereas the said Mary Isham Keith will be intitled to an estate or part of an estate (now in the possession of Nicholas Davis of County) at the Death of the said Davis in which said estate as to the said Mary Isham Keith's part Devolved (or will devolve) to the said Mary Isham Keith by the Death of her mother Judith Davis. Now the said Mary Isham Keith agrees that the said Thomas Keith shall immediately on the death of the said Davis become possessed of her whole and full part of the said estate to have and to hold the same with every part and parcel thereof to the said Thomas Keith his heirs and assigns forever. And Lastly the said Mary Isham Keith doth hereby oblige herself and her heirs [...] execute any other deed or writings [...]effectual conveyance of the premises to the said Thomas Keith his Heirs and Assigns that shall by him or them reasonably required or by his or their counsel learned in the law [...] advised devised or required. Old Churches Ministers and Families of Virginia. Article LIV
After the division of the former parish of Hamilton into Dettingen and Hamilton, in the year 1745, the Rev. Mr. Keith continued to be minister in Hamilton. How long he had been minister of the whole parish is not known; neighter have I been able to ascertain how long he continued to be minister of Hamilton parish after the division, only that in 1758 the Rev. Joseph Brunskill was the minister. The vestry-book, which could have informed us, was placed in the Clerk's office, and there torn up, page after page, by the clerks or others, for the purpose of lighting cigars or pipes.

Keith, James: From Scotland. Born, 1696. Kings Bounty Va., March 4,1728/29. Minister, Henrico Parish, Henrico County, 1730 and prior to 1733, when he resigned. (Henrico Vestry Book, p.16.) Dr.Brock quotes Perry as saying he went to Maryland. But it would seem to be the same who married Mary Isham Randolph, of Tuckahoe, and was minister of Hamilton Parish, Prince William County (later Fauquier), in 1736, (See Hist. Truro Parish, p.12), and was there until his death, probably about 1757. (Meade, II, 207-216; Perry, 358.) But Govenor Gooch says he went to Maryland "with his guilt" in November, 1734. (Va. Hist. Mag., XXXII, 327, 333-4.)

The History of Truro Parish in Virginia
This note was made after Mr. Green became Rector of the Parish. The foregoing entries are the only evidence of the connection of Messrs. De Butts and Holmes with the Parish. These facts were unknown to Bishop Meade, who never saw this record. This book also reveals the fact that the Rev. James Keith, of Hamilton Parish, the Grandfather of Chief justice Marshall, also officiated in this Parish, when it was without a minister. At this very Vestry an order was entered to pay the Rev. Mr. James Keith 10,544 pounds of tobacco for services rendered.

Keith, James: From Scotland. Born, 1696. Kings Bounty Va., March 4,1728/29. Minister, Henrico Parish, Henrico County, 1730 and prior to 1733, when he resigned. (Henrico Vestry Book, p.16.) Dr.Brock quotes Perry as saying he went to Maryland. But it would seem to be the same who married Mary Isham Randolph, of Tuckahoe, and was minister of Hamilton Parish, Prince William County (later Fauquier), in 1736, (See Hist. Truro Parish, p.12), and was there until his death, probably about 1757. (Meade, II, 207-216; Perry, 358.) But Govenor Gooch says he went to Maryland "with his guilt" in November, 1734. (Va. Hist. Mag., XXXII, 327, 333-4.)

The History of Truro Parish in Virginia
This note was made after Mr. Green became Rector of the Parish. The foregoing entries are the only evidence of the connection of Messrs. De Butts and Holmes with the Parish. These facts were unknown to Bishop Meade, who never saw this record. This book also reveals the fact that the Rev. James Keith, of Hamilton Parish, the Grandfather of Chief justice Marshall, also officiated in this Parish, when it was without a minister. At this very Vestry an order was entered to pay the Rev. Mr. James Keith 10,544 pounds of tobacco for services rendered.

v. Mary Randolph Keith was born on 28 Apr 1737 at Prince William (now Fauquier). She married Thomas (Col.) Marshall, son of John (of the Forest) Marshall and Elizabeth Markham, in 1754 Germantown, Prince William County now Fauquier.
vi. Judith Keith was born circa 1741 at Prince William (now Fauquier). She married James Key, possibly son of Father Price, circa 1765 Fauquier County, Virginia.
vii. Elizabeth Keith was born in 1745 at Prince William (now Fauquier). She married Edward Ford, son of Thomas Ford and Jane Milstead, in 1766.

Mary Isham Keith being summonded before this Court to give County Security to William Blackwell gent and others her Securitys for the faithfull administration of the estate of James Keith, gent came into the said court and entered himself Security for their Indemnity.

THOMAS McCLANAHAN - Plaintiff vs MARY ISHAM KEITH, Exe. of James Keith, Clergyman, dec'd, Defendant.
The defendant having been duly summoned and failing to appear it is considered that the Plaintiff recover against the said Defendant the sum of 510 pounds of tobacco to be levied of the Goods and Chattels which were of the said James at the time of his death in the hands of the said Defendant to be administered if so much on her hands to be administered she hath and if she hath not then the costs of the aforesaid to be levied of the proper Goods and Chattels of the said defendant and also his costs. July 22, 1762. Justices present: John West, Daniel McCarty, John Carlysle, and Wm. Adams.
Fauquier County, Virginia 22 Aug 1772, Mary Isham Keith gave Thomas Keith 5 negroes and her share of her mother's (Judith Davis) estate. In return, Thomas was to pay 150 pounds current money of VA towards Mary's debt's and to keep Mary in a decent and genteel manner:
Articles of agreement made and entered into the twenty second day of August Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and seventy two between Mary Isham Keith of the Parish of Leeds in the County of Fauquier and Colony of Virginia widow and Relict of the late James Keith, Clerk, of the one part and Thomas Keith of the Parish, County and Colony aforesaid Witness whereas the said Thomas Keith has paid for the said Mary Isham Keith the sum of One hundred and fifty pounds current money of Virginia towards the paiment of her debts and is to support and maintain the said Mary Isham Keith in a decent and genteel Manner she the said Mary Isham Keith for and in consideration thereof Hath Bargained, sold, made over, delivered and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain, sell, makeover, Deliver and confirm unto the said Thomas Keith the five following slaves (?), Beck, Finder, Amos, and (?) to have and to hold the said Five negroe Slaves unto the said Thomas Keith his heirs and assigns forever. It is further agreed between the parties that whereas the said Mary Isham Keith will be intitled to an estate or part of an estate (now in the possession of Nicholas Davis of County) at the Death of the said Davis in which said estate as to the said Mary Isham Keith's part Devolved (or will devolve) to the said Mary Isham Keith by the Death of her mother Judith Davis. Now the said Mary Isham Keith agrees that the said Thomas Keith shall immediately on the death of the said Davis become possessed of her whole and full part of the said estate to have and to hold the same with every part and parcel thereof to the said Thomas Keith his heirs and assigns forever. And Lastly the said Mary Isham Keith doth hereby oblige herself and her heirs [...] execute any other deed or writings [...]effectual conveyance of the premises to the said Thomas Keith his Heirs and Assigns that shall by him or them reasonably required or by his or their counsel learned in the law [...] advised devised or required. Old Churches Ministers and Families of Virginia. Article LIV
After the division of the former parish of Hamilton into Dettingen and Hamilton, in the year 1745, the Rev. Mr. Keith continued to be minister in Hamilton. How long he had been minister of the whole parish is not known; neighter have I been able to ascertain how long he continued to be minister of Hamilton parish after the division, only that in 1758 the Rev. Joseph Brunskill was the minister. The vestry-book, which could have informed us, was placed in the Clerk's office, and there torn up, page after page, by the clerks or others, for the purpose of lighting cigars or pipes.

John Crump gent produced a Commission from under the hand of his Honor the Governor appointing him one of the Coroners of this county took the oaths appointed by Act of Parliament to be taken repeated and subscribed the test as also the Coroners Oath.
Mary Isham Keith being summonded before this Court to give County Security to William Blackwell gent and others her Securitys for the faithfull administration of the estate of James Keith, gent came into the said court and entered himself Security for their Indemnity.

THOMAS McCLANAHAN - Plaintiff vs MARY ISHAM KEITH, Exe. of James Keith, Clergyman, dec'd, Defendant.
The defendant having been duly summoned and failing to appear it is considered that the Plaintiff recover against the said Defendant the sum of 510 pounds of tobacco to be levied of the Goods and Chattels which were of the said James at the time of his death in the hands of the said Defendant to be administered if so much on her hands to be administered she hath and if she hath not then the costs of the aforesaid to be levied of the proper Goods and Chattels of the said defendant and also his costs. July 22, 1762. Justices present: John West, Daniel McCarty, John Carlysle, and Wm. Adams.
Fauquier County, Virginia 22 Aug 1772, Mary Isham Keith gave Thomas Keith 5 negroes and her share of her mother's (Judith Davis) estate. In return, Thomas was to pay 150 pounds current money of VA towards Mary's debt's and to keep Mary in a decent and genteel manner:
Articles of agreement made and entered into the twenty second day of August Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and seventy two between Mary Isham Keith of the Parish of Leeds in the County of Fauquier and Colony of Virginia widow and Relict of the late James Keith, Clerk, of the one part and Thomas Keith of the Parish, County and Colony aforesaid Witness whereas the said Thomas Keith has paid for the said Mary Isham Keith the sum of One hundred and fifty pounds current money of Virginia towards the paiment of her debts and is to support and maintain the said Mary Isham Keith in a decent and genteel Manner she the said Mary Isham Keith for and in consideration thereof Hath Bargained, sold, made over, delivered and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain, sell, makeover, Deliver and confirm unto the said Thomas Keith the five following slaves (?), Beck, Finder, Amos, and (?) to have and to hold the said Five negroe Slaves unto the said Thomas Keith his heirs and assigns forever. It is further agreed between the parties that whereas the said Mary Isham Keith will be intitled to an estate or part of an estate (now in the possession of Nicholas Davis of County) at the Death of the said Davis in which said estate as to the said Mary Isham Keith's part Devolved (or will devolve) to the said Mary Isham Keith by the Death of her mother Judith Davis. Now the said Mary Isham Keith agrees that the said Thomas Keith shall immediately on the death of the said Davis become possessed of her whole and full part of the said estate to have and to hold the same with every part and parcel thereof to the said Thomas Keith his heirs and assigns forever. And Lastly the said Mary Isham Keith doth hereby oblige herself and her heirs [...] execute any other deed or writings [...]effectual conveyance of the premises to the said Thomas Keith his Heirs and Assigns that shall by him or them reasonably required or by his or their counsel learned in the law [...] advised devised or required. In witness whereof the said parties have hereunto interchangably set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. Signed Mary Isham Keith; Thomas Keith. Sealed and Delivered in the presence of John O'Bannon, William Morgan, and ? ?.

Old Churches Ministers and Families of Virginia. Article LIV
After the division of the former parish of Hamilton into Dettingen and Hamilton, in the year 1745, the Rev. Mr. Keith continued to be minister in Hamilton. How long he had been minister of the whole parish is not known; neighter have I been able to ascertain how long he continued to be minister of Hamilton parish after the division, only that in 1758 the Rev. Joseph Brunskill was the minister. The vestry-book, which could have informed us, was placed in the Clerk's office, and there torn up, page after page, by the clerks or others, for the purpose of lighting cigars or pipes.

Keith, James: From Scotland. Born, 1696. Kings Bounty Va., March 4,1728/29. Minister, Henrico Parish, Henrico County, 1730 and prior to 1733, when he resigned. (Henrico Vestry Book, p.16.) Dr.Brock quotes Perry as saying he went to Maryland. But it would seem to be the same who married Mary Isham Randolph, of Tuckahoe, and was minister of Hamilton Parish, Prince William County (later Fauquier), in 1736, (See Hist. Truro Parish, p.12), and was there until his death, probably about 1757. (Meade, II, 207-216; Perry, 358.) But Govenor Gooch says he went to Maryland "with his guilt" in November, 1734. (Va. Hist. Mag., XXXII, 327, 333-4.)

The History of Truro Parish in Virginia
This note was made after Mr. Green became Rector of the Parish. The foregoing entries are the only evidence of the connection of Messrs. De Butts and Holmes with the Parish. These facts were unknown to Bishop Meade, who never saw this record. This book also reveals the fact that the Rev. James Keith, of Hamilton Parish, the Grandfather of Chief justice Marshall, also officiated in this Parish, when it was without a minister. At this very Vestry an order was entered to pay the Rev. Mr. James Keith 10,544 pounds of tobacco for services rendered.
