John was born in Virginia, probably Shenandoah County, and moved with his parents and family to Fairfield County, Ohio, in the early 1800s.
After his father died in 1823, he moved with brothers George #43110888 and Jacob #81218360 to Union, then Hardin County, Ohio, before finally settling in Noble County. Another brother, Peter, remained in Fairfield County.
