"Robert Eugene Bodine, 49, a partner in the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, died at 9:30 a.m. today (August 25, 1969) at his home. He had been ill a year and a half and seriously ill six weeks. Born July 17, 1920 at Covington, he was the son of H. E. and Elizabeth Martin Bodine. On August 3, 1941 he married Louis Chew, who preceded him in death November 10, 1958.

A life resident of Covington, he had been a funeral director and associated with Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home since 1947. He retired because of ill health last November.

Active in community affairs, he was a member of the Covington United Methodist Church, a past master of Fountain Masonic Lodge No. 60 F & AM at Covington, past chancellor commander of Tidal Lodge No. 36 Knights of Pythias at Covington, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute, past commander of Fulton-Banta Post No. 91 of the American Legion at Covington, Fountain County Old Guard Post No. 2395 Veterans of Foreign Wars at Covington, Danville, Ilinois Lodge No. 332 Elks, Danville Gao Grotto, and the Wallace Low 12 Club.

Also past district chairman of Plankeshaw Council of Boy Scouts, past president of Covington Lions Club, Western Indiana Shrine Club, Illiana Auto Racing Fans Club, Swards of Bunker Hill, Mount Hope Cemetery Board of Covingotn, Indiana Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Association. Mr. Bodine served two terms as Troy Township trustee and as a member of the Covington School Board.

Surviving are two sons, David E. of Covington and Peter K. at home; a daughter, Mrs. Betsy Covault of Covington; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bodine of Greenwood Route 3; two brothers, Martin S. (Bud) of Lakeville, Minnesota, and James D. of Greenwood Route 3; and a sister, Mrs. Dortha Sue Boltz of Greenwood Route 3.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EDT Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. George F. Beatty and the Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday." – Commercial News, Danville, Illinois
