Mrs. Jens C. Johnson, 71, of Washington, died Sunday morning of pneumonia. As Ane Kathrine Andersen, she was born at Hastrup on the isle of Sjaelland, Denmark, July 19, 1866, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She came to America when 22 years old to make her home with her sister, Mrs. Nels Andersen, near Washington, and was married to Mr. Johnson the following year. Since then Mr. and Mrs. Johnson had lived on a farm just north of the village.
Surviving Mrs. Johnson are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Jorgen Christensen of Washington and Mrs. J.H. Schmeckpepper of Fremont; a son, J.C. Johnson, jr., of Kennard; and the sister, Mrs. Nels Andersen. There are eight grandchildren and other more distant relatives.
Funeral services were held at the Washington Community church last Wednesday, with the Rev. James N. Lund of First Lutheran church, Blair, officiating.
