Birth: Dec. 22, 1863
Death: Jan. 9, 1944

Buried next to Estella Brandt. The book, Historic Mason County, Michigan published in 1980, by the Mason County Historical Society contains a biography for Stephen Douglas Brant and it reads: "Brandt-Stephen Douglas Brandt was born December 22, 1863. He was one of eight sons of the family born to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brandt at Sodus in Berrien County. Three of these sons died when young children and three passed away as young men, leaving Stephen and Joseph. They both were residents of Fountain for many years. Doug came to Fountain on a fur buying expedition in 1892 and liked it well enough to return and make it his home. He purchased a farm in section 12 that today is part of the village of Fountain. At Ludington, in 1900, he united in marriage to Estella (Pratt) Brown. Her first husband had died in the east leaving her with one son, Ralph. They lived on the farm but a short time before building a home in Fountain on Cleveland and Main. Near this home on the north end of Cleveland, Doug operated a livery barn and fur buying station. At this same location he opened z meat market and sold fresh meat from his own herd of cattle. He was noted in later years for his fine vegetable garden, which was the center for resorters to chat. Many likened him to that loveable old character of Clarence Buddington Kelland, ‘Scattergood,' as he sat on his porch and visited with friends and watched the traffic. He served the village of Fountain as president during 1942-43 and was treasurer of the school board for a number of years. He passed away and his widow Estella remained in the home for many years before going to live with her children. Two children were born to this union, Russell (1901) and Roscoe (1905)." He was a son of Norman and Amanda Brant of Berrien County. After Norman died in 1879 Amanda married to Daniel Matthews.
