Mary Jane is the daughter of
John H. Voorhees and his
wife Maria Kershaw.
Mary Jane was married on
March 17, 1853 in Terre Coupee Pairie,
later known as Hamilton, St. Joseph
County Indiana, to
Abraham ("Abram")  W. Ammerman
(spelled with three "m's"),
the son of William Amerman
(spelled with two "m's") and his
wife Eliza Ann Schenck, by
Alonson H. Pidge, Minister
(a Methodist minister).
Note: Marriage record listed in
"Marriage Records, St. Joseph Co. IN.
Vol. IV-VI 1855-1875", located in
the Indiana State Library, genealogy
department, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The children of Abraham W. Ammerman
and his wife Mary Jane Vorhes are:

b. July 2, 1854 in Terre Coupee
(later known as Hamilton,
St. Joseph County, Indiana).
m. George Washington McBain on
Aug. 7, 1871 in New Carlisle,
St. Joseph County Indiana.
Note: After Harriet died, George
married Harriet's cousin,
Mrs. Isadora (Kizer) Upham, the former
wife of Theodore Albert Upham.
d. May 6, 1905 in New Carlisle,
St. Joseph County, Indiana.

with George Washington McBain.

2. Theodore F. Amerman.
b. 1856 (per his headstone), in Iowa.
m. Sarah L. Burdee, Dec. 1, 1879 in
St. Joseph County Indiana.
d. 1932.
Buried: Hamilton Church Cemetery.
Note: The surname on his headstone
is spelled "Amerman".
3. Sarah Ammerman/Amerman.
b. 1859 in Iowa.
Note: Another descendant states the
following for Sarah:
Sarah Jane Elizabeth Amerman married
# 1. William Jasper Spencer.
They had six children. (Later divorced).
m # 2. John Crousore.
Sarah Jane Elizabeth (Amerman)
Crousore died on Dec. 14, 1939.

Madison County Indiana.
4. Maria Ammerman/Amerman.
b. about 1859.
d. April 27, 1868, age 8 years,
11 months and 28 days
(per: cemetery redords).

5. John F. Ammerman/Amerman.
b. about 1861.
d. Nov. 23 or 28, 1866, age 5 years,
3 months and 5 days.

6. Cora A. Ammerman.
b. about 1864 in Indiana.
m. Edward B. Hayes, Feb. 27, 1887,
in St. Joseph County Indiana.
7. Schuyler C. Ammerman/Amerman.
b. Feb 9, 1866.
d. March 28, 1868, age 2 years,
1 month and 19 days
(per: his headstone).
(Cemetery records say
2 years, 2 months, and 19 days).

8. Clara Bell Ammerman.
b. 1869 in Indiana.
m. Albert Hampton, May 7, 1894,
in St. Joseph County Indiana.
d. 1913.
Buried: Hamilton Church Cemetery.
9. Everett Earnest Ammerman,
(also listed as "Earnest E." in
the old Hamilton Church records).
b. about 1874 in Indiana.
(Earnest possibly lived in North
Dakota in 1930 and 1940).

Note: At least six of their
children are buried in this cemetery.

Mary's headstone, are three small
headstones for their three young
children, Maria, John F., and Schuyler.
Note: The surname on Abraham and
Mary's headstone is spelled
"AMMERMAN", but the surname on
the small headstones for their
three young children, is
spelled "AMERMAN".

right side of the church (when facing
the front of the church), half way back.
The headstone for their son Theodore,
is located at the far back right
corner of the cemetery (when facing
the front of the church).
The headstone for their daughter
Harriet (and husband George) McBain,
is located on the right side of the
church (when facing the front of
the church).
The "Old Hamilton Church Membership
Roll 1874-1878", located at the Indiana
State Library in Indianapolis, IN includes
Abraham Ammerman and his wife Mary,
and their daughter Harriet (Ammerman)
McBain and Eliza McBain
(Harriet's mother-in-law).
Also, Harriet's daughter Leona McBain,
and a Earnest [Everett?] E. McBain.
Also, Abraham's sister Mary Catherine
(Ammerman) Kizer and her husband
James Kizer [Sr.] and several of
their children.
