Margaret was born December 15, 1903 in McIntosh County, eleven miles southwest of Wishek, the daughter of Jacob and Carolina (Villhauer) Hochhalter. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm. She and Albert P. Wiest were married August 10, 1923 at Ashley, ND. They made their home on a farm 15 miles northeast of Zeeland, ND. In 1956 they moved into Wishek for their retirement. Following the death of her husband in 1971 she continued to reside in Wishek. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Wishek,
Surviving are three daughters and son-in-laws, Viola (Charles) Bettenhausen, Ione (Christ) Bettenhausen, all of Wishek, Percilla (Ben) Grenz, Selby, SD; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Arlene Wiest, Seneca, SD; 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Hochhalter, Harden, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, two daughters, seven brothers and seven sisters.
Organist at the service was Naomi Klein; special music by Jonna Hochhalter and honorary pallbearers were all her grandchildren. Haut Funeral Homes, Wishek, was in charge of arrangements.
