Hiram Craig Meek was born in Oregon Territory in 1842, a son of Joseph and Virginia Meek. His family was one of the earliest settlers in this Tuality Plains area. The names of some of his siblings and his parents are also engraved on this cenotaph. He was 17 years old.

In Washington county, Oregon, of typhoid fever May 12th, HIRAM C. MEEK, second son of Joseph L. Meek, aged 17 years.
