Richard Newberry Hobbs, 90, of Springfield, passed away Tues., July 4, 2006, in St. John's Hospital. He was born May 12, 1916, in Longrun, Mo., to Benjamin Harrison and Martha (Taber) Hobbs. At age 20 he was saved at the General Baptist Church in Longrun under a brush arbor. On Aug. 16, 1936, he married Leslie Amyl Sallee and to this union two children were born. Newberry worked in the mercantile business in Longrun. In 1960 he moved to Springfield where he worked for, and retired from, McGregor Wholesale Variety. He was a deacon in the General Baptist Church in Longrun and Eastside General Baptist Church in Springfield for more than 65 years. Preceding him in death were his parents his son, Richard Carl Hobbs his grandson, Michael Hobbs and an infant grandson. Newberry is survived by his wife of 69 years, Amyl, of the home a daughter, Wanda Price and her husband, Garold, of Buffalo five grandchildren: Scott Price of Buffalo, Amy Price and Tonya Price, both of Springfield, Dinah Hobbs, and Diana Forbach and her husband, Dennis, all of Kansas City two great-grandchildren, Annie Wallace and her husband, Scott, and Audrey Forbach and two great-greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Meda Smith of Ozark, and several nieces, great-nieces and nephews, and good friends. Funeral services will be Fri., July 7 at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Longrun Cemetery, Longrun, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Longrun Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
