CHS TWIRLER DIES; RITES SET SATURDAY
Miss Tamara Lynn Thaxton, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Thaxton, died at 9:30 PM Thursday in West Texas Medical Center. She had been hospitalized since November 9.
Miss Thaxton had been in ill health the past two years.
Funeral will be at 10 AM Saturday in Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Riddlehoover, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park under direction of Elliott's Funeral Home.
Miss Thaxton was born October 18, 1954, in Merkel and came to Abilene with her parents in 1961 from Breckenridge. Her father is band director at Cooper High School. She was a majorette at Cooper High School this year.
At Madison Junior High School, she was a majorette two years and was head majorette in the ninth grade. She was a member of the All-District and All-Region band last year in Madison.
Miss Thaxton had won numerous first place honors in University Interscholastic League competition in twirling and also in French horn solo and ensemble contests.
While at Madison, Miss Thaxton was a member of the National Honor Society and received the American Legion Award in the ninth grade. She was named outstanding band student in the ninth grade. Miss Thaxton was a member of Tri-Hi-Y.
Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Eric and Kirk, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. J. P. McBeth of Irving; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Thaxton.
Pallbearers will be Gary DeShazo, W. A. Anderson, Bill Spencer, Lee South, Robert Gans, and Tim Jones.
Members of the Cooper High School band will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family requests remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society or to band scholarship funds at McMurry College or Abilene Christian College.
