Macon Native succombs after short illness in local hospital
James Newton Rogers, a Macon County native, died June 10, in a local hospital after a short illness. He was 78 years old.
Funeral services were conducted the following afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, at the Ellijay Baptist Church by the Rev Frank Reed. Burial was in the church cemetery.
A farmer, Mr Rogers was born April 9, 1874, the son of David and Miss Angeline Mincey Rogers, of the Ellijay community.
He was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, and was married in 1901 to Miss Millie Peek, who died in 1932. For the past several years he had been living with his son, Fred Rogers in the Cullasaja community.
Surviving are his son and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Fred Mincey, Ted Higdon, Roy Stiwinter, Theodore Rogers, Driscoe Dills, and Canton Henry.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bryant Funeral Home.
